The Hunt

Image
The Hunt     One of the best wildlife moments... We had a morning Safari in the Junouna buffer of the Tadoba Tiger reserve and as a regular practice we were early and were the first gypsy at the gate. The gate opened up and just as we entered within about 100 meters we heard some spotted deer alarm calls on the right ride of the safari track. One of the deer jumped across the road on to the left side in absolute confusion. What we saw next was stuff that dreams are made up of... To our absolute shock we saw a leopard leap almost to about 12 feet mid-air and latching on to the deer and bringing it down. It was 5.37 AM, almost pitch dark and yet we ended up getting enough time while the leopard lay the choke bite to get a decent video and a few pictures. One of the most memorable moments of my wildlife career.

The Gompa Land - A photo story

Image
The Gompa Land A photo story Rat race, routine, traffic, pollution, choked, bills, …. I associate all these words with city life. Somehow we have been auto tuned to accept this and make merry of the most mediocre ways of life. Partly this witlessness is attributed due to our dearth of travel opportunities. I for one have been extremely fortunate to have a profession that gets me to inhale some of the most spectacular and exquisite views the natural world has to offer. One such paradise on earth is in Ladakh and Zanskar Valley. I have been travelling regularly to this rugged yet stunning abode since past few years and here I share some of my best landscape pictorial stories from this Land of the Gompas. Ek Kaarwaan aisa bhi hoga … This shall pass too…. Someday…. Someday soon…… Sometime looking at a picture is like reading an entire book, only difference is you end up making your own story while you get deeply engrossed viewing it. This image is one such story for me. Double humped

The Eyes if the Blind

Image
The Eyes if the Blind -------------------------------------------------------------------     Take me high in the mountains, Drop me up from there, Untie me from these humanly shackles, Let me not live in despair.   Cut my heart, spare the trees, Shoot me With darts of hatred, Until I fall on my knees.   By the sea I find solace, Walking on the sand so pure. Leaking monsters of oil filled slick. Dead fishes and birds alike, Makes my heart cry for sure.   The raging sea, the crawling roots, Searching for a place in their own home. This home now we made a living hell, From mountains and forests to chemicals, plastics and foam.   Of late night parties and the art of living. The open tap chokes for air. Thirsty kids dying for a gulp. ‘Save Water’ ‘Do we really care’.   Now as I drive, back to home, In my luxury car, Not realizing how its choking my Mother Earth. Is this life of any damn worth?   - Amit Panariya

Calling for rain Gods

Image
Calling for rain Gods --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rain drops falling on my face The morning hue keeps me warm inside Rainbow seeping through the clouds Colors in which I confide   He has launched a thousand poems, Inspired a timeless art Man came along with his modern weapons, And destroyed this priceless boulevard   Immortalized the trees stand riding the Vehicle of change…….. They cry out loud, O’ rain, O’ rain When will u come And wet me again?     I see the little boy within me, Running on joy filled puddles of rain, The puddles have gone, the rain has fainted The little boy lies wounded in the drain.   We destroy what is not ours, of god’s structures, that he painfully built,   Like exquisitely crafted sand castles collapsing under the weight of soggy impermanence, the tapestry of human happiness….WILTS. - Amit Panariya

Jim Corbett National Park ---- The Land of roars and trumpets ----

Image
Jim Corbett National Park ---- The Land of roars and trumpets ---- A photo assay In a career as a Wildlife Expedition leader spanning over 10 years I have traveled the length and breadth of India’s remotest and tourist friendly national parks and Tiger Reserves. And yet my jinx of not able to travel to one of the most spectacular and famous Jim Corbett National park still remained unbroken. It was the summer of 2018 when finally, I could plan a trip to this aptly names Land of Roars and trumpets and broke the cursed jinx. Here is a photo assay of the beautiful biodiversity of this amazing forest that has been serving as a safe haven for many bird and animal species and a paradise where wild Tigers and Elephants roam free. Since years I have been seeing the sunrise / sunset photos from Jim Corbett NP on FaceBook and magazines and always had a desire to get one of my own. After shooting a hog deer in extreme early morning low light, the sun just peeped out

In search of the Denmo The Himalayan Brown Bear

Image
In search of the Denmo   The Himalayan Brown Bear One of the many breath taking views of the Zanskar Valley I must have been in the eighth grade. I remember watching a documentary on Animal planet on Grizzly Bears and it was during this time my fascination towards these stunning beasts started building up. I relished on the idea of being a wildlife warden or a photographer and to walk the same land as these wild bears. Years passed along and my dream of seeing and documenting a wild Brown Bear only grew moss over time. Indian Sloth Bear with Cubs from Central India Though I have photographed many Indian sloth bears in the wild, the idea of seeing a Himalayan Brown Bear was always an extremely tempting desire. One fine day me and my friend Kaustubh from work were exploring the idea of exploring The Zanskar valley in Ladakh as a prospective expedition for wildlife photographer who would wish to photograph the wildlife of this rugged yet spectacular landscape.
